Don't you hate it when you over hear your parents talking about you? I know I do... they have no faith in me what so ever. I want to be an artist and they say go for it to my face, but say that I need to get serious and get a new career option cause i'm not good enough behind my back. Saying that I have to learn that myself and learn the mistake i an making myself. Of course they will never say that to my face. It kind of hurts when they make references to me doing something other then art... cause I know they think I am not any good... I don't really have high self esteem and I already have my doubts about whether or not i can actually do it, and they're attitude towards it only makes me feel worse since every contest I have entered, or scholarship I have applied for, i haven't worn or gotten. I guess I am kind of upset. I really don't know what to do now...

Yeah, maybe you should look at some other options. I mean, we all should have back up plans, heck I have a million though that's because I don't know what to do myself. There's too much I want to try. But you should still pursue being an artist, too! Maybe it'll have to be put on the backburner...in this world, so many people want to be an artist of some sort. We're all a dime a dozen, really.
Meh...I guess what I want to say is, parents are like that. They worry and fret over what their children will become because they've seen the real world and maybe they lost or had to give up their dreams. Don't let what they've said get you down, but do consider investing time in a plan b.

I daresay I dared! Nay, I simply did!
For instance, I want to be an author, but I'm not just going to assume I'll be an author at first shot, so I look into becoming a journalist or a magazine writer.
Your safe plan can involve what you love to do: art, drawing. You can work for an art magazine, be a graphic designer for advertisements, or some other form of job that will keep you stable in life while you work at becoming an artist.
Don't let your parents let you down. They're worried. They know the great competition as you should know and they don't want their daughter to fail or get crushed by society. They love you to be safe, but they don't want you give up your dreams.
My daughter had dreams of what she wanted to do and I encouraged her, always remembering her problems and wondering if she'd actually fulfil her potential. At the same time as encouraging her, I had similar talks with my husband as your parents seem to have had. It's the hardest thing on earth to suddenly realise that your child is maybe reaching for the unattainable. You're torn between encouraging her to do what she wants to do, and at the same time, trying to get her to realise that she may not be able to achieve what she wants. My daughter really wanted to study music technology but ended up being thrown off the course because she couldn't handle the written work. She could have given up right then but instead she fought back. She insisted her college re-assess her educational needs and the result of that is that she now gets help with course-work, etc.
She's not doing what she originally really wanted to do - she's now studying forensics and realises that she's enjoying this far more than the music course.
Through it all, I've tried to encourage her, but also known that she may ultimately fail. I'm just so thankful that she's proving me wrong.
Now it's your turn - go and prove your parents wrong, but always keep a second choice in the back of your mind 'just in case'
Good luck, with whatever you decide and try not to judge your parents too harshly. They obviously love you a great deal.

I hate it when that stuff happens.
You're a great artist. It takes practice to develop skills over years and people who aren't artists don't realize this.
If you keep at it, you'll excel even further than you already have (you're far better than me @_@) and eventually your parents will hopefully understand your decision. :\
I plan on continuing my artistry when I'm older but also work in other areas as well- you could perhaps try other things as a secondary option.

most people who were fineartists either have to fee-lance a lot or work in a retail store just to support themselves so they can do their craft on their own time...when they actually have time. You really ought to talk to free-lance artists and really get to know what they have to go through now that they're in the big scary world now.
I looked at your gallery, you've got a lot of great ideas and you draw very well. but your parents really want you to be able to support yourself in the long run because they worry about you because they love you. its not because they think you can't do anything.
So if you really want to be an artist, look at graphic design when you get to college. at least you know that there is full time work available after you graduate.
